Hamamatsu offers Caesium Iodide (CsI:Tl), which has a needle-like structure, resulting in superior resolution.

Our scintillators can be deposited on to three different types of substrates, aluminium (ALS), amorphous carbon (ACS) and fiber optic plates (FOS). The scintillator plates are available in bespoke sizes and are used for X-ray imaging in both non-destructive testing and medical applications.

The substrates offered by Hamamatsu each have their own specific characteristics:

Fibre-optic plate scintillators (FOS) are directly deposited with CsI. The aim of FOS is to provide an efficient coupling method for the visible light to be detected by solid-state sensors.

Amorphous Carbon has the advantage of being very transparent to low energy X-rays, therefore making it suitable for applications where low energies are used and systems are optimised to have as little attenuation in them as possible.

Aluminium based scintillator plates are a cost effective solution and offer very good light output levels, due to the inherent reflective nature of the substrate.

Amorphous Carbon has good X-ray transmittance characteristics because it is a light element material. In Addition, it is a glass like material with no particle causing blemish defects. It can be polished to a good of flatness for combination with a 2D Image device. Also it is environmentally safe.
